Fresh 'N' Local

Did you know?  We buy local and use Farm Fresh Produce from our local farmers at Garrett Growers!

Soon we will be receiving our first delivery of fresh local grown produce of the 2015 season and we’re excited!  We have always taken pride in the fact that, here at Brenda’s, we use only the highest quality ingredients to bring our recipes to life and create that signature Brenda’s Flavor!  Having fresh locally grown produce available only enhances the process.

For the past few years we have partnered with Garrett Growers (a co-op of local farmers) to purchase fresh, locally grown produce.  In the beginning that meant fresh fruits and veggies were only available during the late summer months, (If you know Garrett County then you know that the growing season is pretty short!) but we took advantage of what we could get.  Through the years these amazing folks have used strategic planning and season-extension techniques to produce more and more fruits and veggies to meet the demands of restaurants in our area.  Now, thanks to these efforts we are able to offer fresh produce in many of our menu items for much of the year.

So the next time you crunch into one of our signature salads or a crispy slice of our Hand-Crafted pizza loaded with veggies just remember…that’s Fresh 'N’ Local!

Hall-of Famer

On Saturday, April 26, 2015 The Garrett County Commission for Women inducted Brenda McDonnell into the Garrett County Women’s Hall Of Fame.  Each year the GCCW honors local women who have made substantial or outstanding contributions to the economic, political, and cultural life of Garrett County.

Brenda has spent the last 30+ years not only as an entrepreneur and sound business woman, but as an advocate for the county and the people that live here.  Her nomination included numerous recommendations from local business leaders and friends that have witnessed firsthand her dedication to people and our community. The nomination also included testimonials from current and former staff members that credit time spent with her as teaching them the discipline needed to succeed.  She is, has been and continues to be a leader, a mentor, and friend to many.

2015 Inductees also included Karen Meyers and Hannah Sincell.  Congratulations to all of you and Thank You for your contributions to our community.

Deep Creek To-Do: Our Top 5

Spring has sprung here at Deep Creek and we couldn’t be more excited!  That’s right.  It’s time to get outside and enjoy the amazing beauty and wonder our area provides.   Rain or shine, there are endless activities to get your family out and about enjoying Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County.  Here are a few of our favorites:

1) Hike & Bike!:  Garrett Trails has developed a large network of trails that provide access to many of Garrett County’s historic, municipal, and environmental treasures.   To find information and maps go to garretttrails.org.  (Our neighbors at High Mountain Sports rent bikes daily, so grab the family and pedal your way through Deep Creek.)

 2) Park It:  In addition to Deep Creek Lake State Park, Garrett County is home to many parks and recreational areas. While you’re here you should see Swallow Falls, Herrington Manor, New Germany, and Savage River State Parks.  Are you up for a little drive…?  Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley and Coopers Rock are less than an hour away!

3) Rain Delay…?:  Sometimes it just rains. Don’t let that keep you from the fun.  Just a few miles south in Oakland, MD you’ll find the B&O Train Station and Museum as well as the Garrett County Historical Museum and Museum of Transportation.

4) Learn & Explore:  The Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake State Park is an educational venue for people of all ages.  They have hands-on exhibits as well as on-site naturalists, rangers, and volunteers that lead educational programs from bird watching and wild flower identification to black bear and wildlife management and endangered species of the Youghiogheny area.

5) Play-A-Round:  Tee off at Thousand Acres Golf Club, the Oakland Golf Club, Wisp Resort or Lodestone.   No need to play through.  You’re going to want to take your time and soak in the natural beauty of these courses.

There are so many amazing and fun activities at your fingertips.  For more information on special events in our area check out visitdeepcreek.com.  Don’t forget to kick start your Deep Creek Adventure with a handcrafted treat from Trader’s Coffee House and refuel after at Brenda’s or Ace’s Run!  We'll see you out there and Happy Adventuring!!!!

Military March

It’s not Veterans Day or Memorial Day.  For most of us it’s just a regular, every day kind of day. We get up and go to school or work.  We see people on the street, smile, and chat a bit.  We come home at night and spend time with our families and our friends.  But for many it’s a very long day… a tough day… a thankless day… far from home… far from family… and friends… fighting battles… and fighting a war.  We sometimes get so busy that we forget that there are military members out there putting their lives on the line to protect our regular, every day kind of day…

That being said, we would like to thank our nation’s military members and their families for the sacrifices they make each and every day to protect our freedoms…

The Deep Creek Lake area and Garrett County, Maryland are honoring our nation's heroes. From March 1 - March 31, 2015, military members and their families can take advantage of special offers at local businesses throughout our area.  Here at Brenda’s, simply show your valid military ID and receive a 15% discount on your purchase.

Offer not valid with any other promotion or discount. Limited to military members and their immediate families. Family members must be in attendance with the military member presenting the ID to take advantage of the discount.

You can find the complete list of participating businesses and discounts at http://www.visitdeepcreek.com

Thank you for your service. Past and Present.
